M-iQ Food service dishwashers – Efficient warewashing technology on the Jungfraujoch
The"high point" of any trip to Switzerland is the Jungfraujoch. Tourists from all over the world meet on "Top of Europe" to marvel at a high alpine wonderland of ice, snow and rocks at an altitude of 3,454 metres. Mountain lakes, waterfalls, glaciers, the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains all around: visitors can expect a breathtaking view that, if the weather is fine, extends as far as the Vosges and the Black Forest.
Visitors to the summit reach the Jungfraujoch plateau by cogwheel railway, which travels almost 1,400 metres in altitude before reaching its tunnel station in Europe's highest railway station.
All restaurants are equipped with dishwashing areas - only the Eiger location uses the M-iQ food service dishwasher.
It is the highest installed MEIKO dishwasher in Europe and can even withstand thin air.
It is in operation for five hours a day and cleans thousands of tableware and cutlery parts in just a short time.
All restaurants - and with them the food service dishwashers - are supplied with melt water in summer. "On peak days we need around 60,000 litres," explains Andreas Wyss (Head of Technical Maintenance), "the water reservoirs in the mountains hold 1,000 cubic metres.
The mountain is largely autonomous. In winter we pump spring water upwards through the railway tunnel in the mountain, where it mixes with the stored melt water. Before it flows out of the pipe as high-quality water, it is filtered, UV-sterilized and treated.
The aim is to pump as little water as possible over 1,300 metres in altitude to save energy. A low water consumption will also help the M-iQ food service dishwashers in reduction, especially as their energy values are also positive." Andreas Wyss: "We chose the M-iQ with heat recovery, because we have to minimise our use of resources and make targeted and careful use of our energy. In addition, the rack type dishwashing machine washes quickly and well. This machine satisfies our requirements on energy efficient warewashing technology."
